Sleep alludes me . . .

Is this jet lag then? It's 1 am Oxford time and I am WIDE awake. Maybe it's jet lag or maybe I am just getting used to getting by on very little sleep. I've been messing around with google for the past hour - it's AMAZING the things you can find on there. Amazing in both a scary and disturbing way. Not much out there about me though - that's probably a good thing. I love a good rumor but only if it's about someone else (don't we all?). So, anyway, Oxford update -

I am here, safe and sound. My roommates are nice and my bedroom is tiny! In fact, I think my bed was designed for hobbits. I'll post some pictures soon. My camera is not really cooperating with me on this trip. If you know me (whoever you are), you know that's driving me up a wall. I made my first solo trek out yesterday and bought a flat iron (yay!), but it doesn't do much good with all of the humidity going on around here. By the way, when I say trek, I mean TRek! Everything is far and the only way to get there is to walk. Quite the change from feeling like simply an overpaid chauffer shuttling children from place to place. It's good for me though, right? I can almost feel my muscles growing.

Yesterday, I was inducted into the Bodelian Library, pictures of that will have to come soon too. We were sent to stand in the middle of the square and wait. Suddenly this woman in robes popped out of a giant wooden door and invited us all in. I hate to use this reference but I felt like Harry Potter being called into Hogwarts for the first time! And SPeaking of Harry Potter, the room connected to where she gave us our library orientation was used in the filming of the first Harry Potter. It was the setting of the infirmary! Our inductor assumed I was from a scandinavian country because of my last name and asked me if I would like to say the oath in my native tongue. Unfortunately, I had no scandanavian language to pull out of my hat, my French even is almost completely lost. Bentley would fit in so much nicer over here, but I do like how Schrecengost still gets me a bit of attention now and then (perhaps I am attention starved here without my Babe to constantly laugh at my jokes and listen to my stories - whether they are funny or not- love you babe!).

Tomorrow we are taking a trip to the Kilns in Headington, where C.S. Lewis lived for a time . Then Sunday I have a busy day we are going to an Evangelical Anglican Church for services, then I have to meet up with Dr. Holland to figure out the schedule for my Virginia Woolf tutorial. I still wish we had been able to work out a linguistic topic, but this class will certainly be interesting (and enjoyable too, I hope!).

Anyway, I had better get to sleep before the goblins and gargoyles come out. Hope all is well back in the colonies and I promise not to develop a fake English accent!!
